When I was visiting a garden the other week – one that has been opening it’s gates to the public for about 35 years, I was struck by the number of seating areas they’d carefully and very thoughtfully put out in every area of the grounds. They know a thing or two about opening their garden – this particular place is not linked to any private house so they rely on coach loads of visitors to their acres of heaven, tucked away in a most unexpected spot. The owners have set out some lovely neat picnic tables and chairs in the vast grounds and woodland setting. Then in the formal gardens, there are many log seats and benches dotted throughout. This idea is excellent, it draws the eye to the focal spots they wish to highlight, without the need for elaborate pathways. There are some lovely quirky touches which could be replicated in any medium sized domestic garden.
