'We had our own ideas about how to improve our NGS refreshment area, but they were surpassed by Helen’s excellent design proposal. Helen formalised the area, adding a different dimension to this uninteresting part of the garden. It looks larger and when the planting matures will make a fantastic backdrop to the refreshment gazebos.'

garden café

the brief |
- Verena and Colin wanted to create a garden café in which to relax, chat and entertain.
- essence garden design created two restful and formally shaped courtyard areas linked by a path.
- the planting is soft and floaty with pencil thin yews set as punctuation marks within it.
- to harmonise this area with the rest of the gardens both the hard materials (in this case gravel and red brick) and plants are found elsewhere.
- and as Summer slides into Autumn, the garden still has structure and interest through hard-working planting design
